Stainless steel, which is an alloy of primarily iron with chromium, nickel and carbon, was discovered by chance in 1912. Several other elements, such as molybdenum, titanium, cobalt and sulphur, are added to obtain specific properties. At present, roughly 200 different alloys are classified as 'stainless steel'.
The range
